My mom turns the big 70 in August. Last night we had a party for her at Andiamo's/Novi. My mom is 70-I can't believe it. It was a wonderful time had by all. I was thinking about the people that are in her life-her children and grandchildren (she has 5), her brother and sister and their children, her extended families accrued to her by our marriages, and her friends both old and new. All these people were there. In fact, there were only 3 people who weren't able to make it. As I looked around the room last night and all these people who were there to help her celebrate this milestone, I thought about how lucky she was. All the treasures of the world were in that room with her.
Jay and I are truly blessed in the fact that we both still have 2 sets of wonderful parents that are actively involved in our lives and Ben's. So many of our friends have lost one or both of their parents. It so hard to see your parents getting older. But I keep thinking to myself that it so much better then the alternative.

As someone who lost his last grandparent at the age of ten, and whose parents are also gone, I can vouch for how lucky you are. Happy Birthday Carol's Mom!!!
What a blessing! It is true, you and Jay are truly blessed to have both his and your parents in your lives. And this will be a treasure for Ben as he forms and keeps great memories of his grandparents. Both of my grandparents were alive until just a few years ago and I just can't say how special they were to me and how lucky I was to have so much time with them.
And Happy Birthday to your happy-looking mom!
